African elephants are the largest land animals on Earth! There are two species: the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), which is the larger of the two, and the smaller African forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis).

The African bush elephant is known for its large ears, which help regulate body temperature, and its wrinkled skin, which aids in water retention. They live in diverse environments, from savannas to forests, and have complex social structures led by matriarchs. Forest elephants, on the other hand, are more elusive and are found in the dense forests of Central and West Africa.

Elephants are incredibly intelligent, with strong social bonds, and they communicate through low-frequency sounds that can travel long distances. Sadly, both species face threats from poaching and habitat loss.
